The "Where I'm From" meme
As Seen On Video Meliora! I played it seriously but got stuck at around age 5.
I am from Grandpa's garden, from Cheerios and a small green town.
I am from the early morning, opening our screen door to the summer sun.
I am from the strawberry patch and silver maple leaves ready for the rain.
I am from potlucks and laughter, from Alva and Veva and old folks come together to eat and laugh and damn the Democrats and doze off in a chair.
I am from folks who learned frugality at home and in the trenches in 1918 and always flew the flag.
From a world where your shoulders just might get stuck in a shrug and your eyes will stay rolled up if you try that again.
I am from deists & theists, Methodists and St Louis Catholics - great-uncle John's brood - who worked on the railroad down there after he came back from Dubya Dubya One and married a Catholic girl.
I'm from Ireland flung through the world, Kentucky quarries and black black soil, chicken & noodles and hot French toast.
From the Bragg girl who married a Bass - his first wife ("cancer", they whisper, she died in '32) was a Colclasure so that's how we're almost related to them, her sister married a Hudson and they lived in Burl Schuck's old place out by Bud Ward corner; from a carpenter and a schoolteacher.
I am from shoeboxes full of pictures and family stories heard with pleasure every year.
