Birthday meme

All my friends are turning 40, but my 40th is many months away (heh). One of them just asked,

Bill, when is your birthday?

Here's my reply, and the seed of a meme:

Hmm... the feastday of St Ephrem the Syrian (also known as St Ephrem the Melodist and/or the Harp of the Holy Spirit). Big prizes to the first googler to figure out the date.

If you're still stumped, it was the feast of Corpus Christi in 1966.

Also on that day, the Cardinals beat the Pirates 4-2 at Forbes Field, the Pioneer Motor Hotel opened in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, and hurricane Alma hit the Florida panhandle.

Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to list three or more events that happened on your birthday (i.e. within 12 hours or so of your birth); the more obscure the better, I suppose.

You're the winner, John! Since I haven't heard back from my email friends yet (no doubt feverishly googling) you have, unfortunately, won the big prizes: two 70-pound bags of Traction Grit(TM) sitting in my garage, terms: u-haul. If you're ever in east central Illinois...

January 4th 1983

Bishop John Fisher died on this date in 1535.

And on my exact birthday Pope Paul VI was elected pope.

On my exact b'day,
- baseball star Jim Leyritz was born;
- the USS Woodrow Wilson (SSBN 624) was commissioned in Vallejo, California; and
- NASA announced that Pratt & Whitney had delivered the fuel cell.

A few years before I was born, Louis Pasteur was born on the same date.

On my 16th birthday, the Soviets invaded Afghanistan.

Oh goodie, another for my oxymoron collection: "baseball star Jim Leyritz" :)
